Sharon Sycamore-Batty

Working consistently as a full-time artist since 2020, I am a contemporary abstract painter who loves working with vibrant colours, mixed-media and textures. My aim has always been to produce bold and expressive work that feels fresh and is visually engaging. Artistically, I would say that I draw on and am inspired by the natural world around me. I would also add that my artwork expresses a personal viewpoint of my experience and time spent exploring the environment through semi representational compositions.

I also enjoy producing artwork that has a real sense of history.I achieve this by often including handmade collage or vintage ephemera or by adapting recycled materials and found objects, where these are re-imagined into my mixed media pieces.

My interest in art started at an early age, after I was fortunate to see the work of Graham Sutherland on display in the art gallery in the city where I grew up and was amazed by the detail and craftsmanship that went into not only his final work but also his preliminary drawings.

After an initial spell at art college to study an art diploma in the early 80’s, I went into the world of work that had nothing to do with art (financial services and local government) and stayed there for almost 40 years. Then lock-down came and gave me the opportunity to rediscover my love of painting and creating and also a new focus and lease of life.

I am proud to have been accepted into the Lincolnshire Artists Society in 2021. Since then, I have had several Lincolnshire solo art exhibitions, have curated my own gallery spaces and taken part in numerous local group shows.

My work is now starting to be exhibited further afield and I was delighted to be chosen recently for art fairs in South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire as well as an art residency in North Norfolk.
