Tracey Smith

My love for painting developed as a child and continued into my teenage years. I studied art history at university and then found my way into teaching and then later, community development. I picked a paint brush back up a thousand years later at a local workshop in Lincoln and never looked back.

I work mainly in acrylic and mixed media and continue to enjoy the medium and the possibilities it offers. My inspiration comes from places I have visited near and far and from the bravery of artists old and new. Discovering Cezanne as a teenager was a real game changer ! I look for ways to abstract and use colour to create mood. Being self taught I have never been aware of rules, so I imagine I have broken every one. I have been told more that once by visitors to my exhibitions that my work. is ‘joyful’. Which just about sums up what painting is to me both in it’s process and the finished piece.

I have exhibited and sold works from galleries in Lincoln, Hull, Sheffield and London.
