Chris Goddard is a Lincoln based photographer with wide experience of editorial work covering portrait and documentary genres for the likes of The Observer, The Guardian, News International, Woman Magazine, Time Out and Times Educational Supplements. He has also worked on long term photographic contracts for Macmillan Publishing, The Museums Association and the Usher Gallery.
Chris’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the UK in group and one person shows.
He moved back from London to his home city of Lincoln at the end of the 1990s and spent 15 years as the Online Communications Manager at the University of Lincoln.

This is a triptych, a self-deprecating take on selfie culture incorporating a haiku.

Human beings are dynamic, ever-changing organisms. Long exposures reveal an existential reality beyond the still image and what we see with the naked eye or in a still photograph. In the case of these selfies I attempt to strip away the superficial details of the ego and replace them with an impression of presence. It becomes less a photo, and more a photo of existence traversing through a moment.
Haiku
Quite a lot of my personal photographs have hidden stories (meta-narratives) which casual observers might miss. So, as a break from the documentary genre I have started adding text to the images in the form of poetry; haiku or senryu in most cases to be precise. This adds another dimension, encouraging viewers to look a little closer, maybe asking questions in an effort to discover more…
Jerusalem
“Jerusalem“, (2015) is about the social landscape of Lincolnshire. It initially took five years to complete but is still ongoing. You can see Jerusalem here.
