Szilvia Ponyiczki is a Hungarian-born artist based in Grantham, Lincolnshire. She completed her Master of Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in 2020, where symbolism, mythology, and collective memory became central to her practice.
Her work, primarily through painting, alongside printmaking and sculpture, draws on ongoing research into prehistoric art, exploring creation myths, archetypal forms and recurring symbols across cultures. Rather than illustrating history, she excavates its symbolic residue, transforming ancient motifs into a contemporary visual language that bridges past and present.
Influenced by Jungian thought, Ponyiczki approaches painting as a meeting point between the conscious and unconscious. Structured compositions coexist with intuitive gestures and emerging symbols, creating layered worlds where myth, memory and dreams converge. Through her work, she explores the mysteries of creation, transformation and our connection to the distant past.

“Lost Origins is a very recent direction, still in development. Emerging from my earlier investigations into dreams, archaeology and ancient visual languages, this work asks how new mythologies might be imagined from fragments of humanity’s ritual past.”

“Rather than constructing individual story-like scenes from existing motifs, as in Ancient Stories, I am beginning to imagine the symbolic material culture, ritual objects and creation myths of a civilisation imagined into existence. Archaeological research, dreams and intuition come together to suggest an uncertain material history: simultaneously ancient and imagined, familiar yet resistant to fixed interpretation.”
